Go with ubuntu 8.10

I get back early this morning at about 4 o’clock, tired. However, the 8.10 version of Ubuntu got released yesterday (or the day before yesterday). Considering my ubuntu 8.04 was broken during a recent upgrade, I’d like to upgrade again for 8.10.

Type “sudo apt-get dist-upgrade” and the apt program will handle everything follows. Actually I wasn’t kept waiting for long, just enough time for a bathing. Now I’m using the newest Ubuntu, exciting. I feel comfort with shell.

Hmmm, there’re still something not that exciting. I lost my ID today. Holy shit.

BTW: I really, really hope the Chinese IMEs in linux can be good as those in Windows.

Again in Ubuntu

Following livid’s recommendation, I began to use Ubuntu since the 6.06 beta version. I kept using this great distribution until my previous laptop went broken. Later I bought a Thinkpad T61, however, the only OS was Windows XP. I planned to make the OS dual, but I did not take action until this week.

I got the 8.04 on my laptop now. With the Core Duo 2 CPU, I can take good advantage of the 64-bit version. Plus, the visual effects which kept unavailable on my old laptop can now play well. It’s really, really cool:

I cannot type Chinese now. It’s easy to get SCIM available but I wanna keep this system pure. It’s important to have a good computer, I think. This T61 can help me making many things true.

The paper of the Challenge Cup was finished last night and attended this morning. Thanks to our great team members , and thanks to their great work! We put all partial content together, only to find the number of pages reached 137. I swear I had never seen such a HUGE document. We reallized the document was too long, thentried many ways to reduce the content to only 113 pages. Easier delete than write.

Attending the paper also made me crazy, however, I’ll not bother to talk about. I feel really tired now. In the passed 10 days, I could not sleep well, and had no more than 2 meals per day.

Finished. Holy shit. I think I need a short rest.

In Hangzhou

I didn’t got a ticket until there were only 50 minutes before the train 1584 leaves. Unfortunately, when I pull my trolley case towards the entrance of station, the drawbars went broken. I stopped, in the crowd, quickly and simply fixed it temporarily. But I knew, the drawbars can never be used again, and I have to carry the heavy case instead of pull.

When got Hangzhou on 23rd, I found a sea of students with bags and cases, coming for school. My mates and me tried to call a taxi, but we were too much charged by those drivers. We managed to get on the K525 bus, after fight with the crowd for tens of minutes.

Alone, popo , Nianyu were all arrived. I was really happy when saw their faces.

I’m back.

Called zining quite soon, and the call lasted a hundred minutes. I love you honey.

At night, bought a new phone on Taobao. It was dopod 586w, a smartphone with wifi support. Zining prefered it when compared to Sumsung X828.

Without mouse

I’ll leave for Taiyuan tomorrow. Totally I spent a great holiday at home.

I began to play a game called “red alarm” last semester, infected by alone, popo and Xiaoyou. As the game wasted tons of time, I tried to get rid of it. When the holiday came, I’ve left my mouse in Hangzhou. Without mouse, I cannot play “red alarm”.

Without mouse, I have to rely on the touch pad. However, I used a lot of shortcut to speed up my actions. I can easily control Firefox with my key board now, amazingly fast.

I may reach Hangzhou on 23rd or earlier. It’s time to prepare for my future.

Time to leave 51.la?

When I started to write blog in 2005, I used 51.la to do the traffic statistics. This was adopted from Zhiyong, the man who brought me to IT field. Then I infected a lot of people, such as popo, alone, zining, etc. However, lately I found, 51.la is not a good choice to get your traffic data served.

The left picture is the recent traffic data of Niupu, It tells there were 7,947 individuals visited niupu. Compared to the previous data (7,000ip/day in this entry), the current traffic is larger.

However, I got to know the data of 51.la is not accurate. Why? Have a look at this page: http://www.alimama.com/membersvc/zone/1683767.htm. I’ve published an ad block in alimama, but not all niupu’s pages contain the ad code. As alimama counts the traffic for each ad block, I got a different data that, on yesterday, the amount of individual visitors is 9,081. Besides, there must be ones who visited pages without an alimama ad block.

So I went to Google Analytics, and got a third data.

Google says, 9,364 people visited niupu last day. This number is more accurate than the 7,947, for alimama has a incomplete statistics num 9,081. 7,947 vs 9,364, more than 1,400 ips were miss counted.

1417/9364 , 51.la missed almost 15% of niupu’s traffic. This maybe caused by server slow, db query failure, DNS error or other possible matters, and I believe 51.la was not on purpose. But if we use an alternative service such as Yahoo Tongji, Google Analytics, less problem will there be.

Recent good news of blogkid

Just found I prefer to write in English now, but I’m afraid not all my reader can well understand. Several good things happened in the recent tens of days, so I decided to write them down, and share my happiness with you all.

Niupu’s traffic reached 7,000 ip/day. Niupu got online in April, 2007, however , there were too much trouble to walk through. The development of niupu’s system cost me 2 months, while the maintenance cost more. But before 2008, I got no more than RMB 1,000 profit. I know money is not that important, but still , I’d like to get more to feed myself. 7,000 ips is not very large, but for small websites , it’s hard to reach. When the traffic has increased, the income now has an average RMB 100/day.

Thanks to Niupu’s great growth, my Google Adsense account balance is to reach $100 in near future (maybe this afternoon). Right now, there’s US$99.77 in my account. I’ll get paid in the end of March, maybe the beginning of April.

blogkid.cn was indexed by DMOZ. I submitted my blog to DMOZ months ago, however, I got no response. But today I checked the traffic report of blogkid.cn, only to find someone came from DMOZ. Amazing! Yep, now my blog is listed here, with a brief introduction, together with Wang Jianshuo’s blog .

Why DMOZ? I can only say,  as many search engines use the data of DMOZ, for a website, indexed by DMOZ is a good way to get SEOed. Alexa now used the new data of my blog, check out here.

niupu.com was indexed by Google. For 8 months or even longer, Google refused to index niupu. That is, you cannot found even a single page of niupu.com in Google’s search result. But last night when I searched “site:niupu.com” in Google, it returned tens of results, which made me more than glad. I’ll later write another post on how to get back in Google’s search result.

With the help from Google, I believe niupu will be larger and larger. Thus, I published an ad block on 阿里妈妈 ,  if you’d like to advertise on niupu, you can kindly have a look.

I’ll be back in Hangzhou before Feb 24th to have a new term started. But I did not get a train ticket till now.

Update: My Adsense account balance exceeded $100 a moment ago. $100 isn’t much, but is a milestone.
